Today was the spectacular and successful take-a-buddy-to-lunch day. Ms. Santos and Ms. Sheena assigned Richard to me, so I introduced them to Dan, so we could all hang out together at lunch time. It ended up being an entire mob of the nine of us walking through the stuffy hallways though because Khaled, Hanh, Eliza, Abigail (a.k.a. Hannah Montana), and the others wanted to follow along since their other buddies didn't come pick them up. So I was more than glad to take all of them with me. At lunch time, we just walked around the school and played the famous follow-the-leader-game until the bell rang. Despite our short trip, the kids still had a lot of fun just being able to get out to the outside world and see the rest of the students at Piedmont Hills, instead of hiding behind the tv watching Spongebob Squarepants reruns in the classroom all day. I think it is a fantastic idea for the Special Ed to interact with the General Ed because this way no one gets isolated at any rate; now they can too be accepted and treated just the same way as everyone else. I have to say that Khaled has the most infectious smile I have ever seen and it just makes my heart glow brighter each time I see him. The Special Ed kids are so amazing in every way. I thank them for helping me build so much more patience than I ever have in the things I do everyday. Life is wonderful when you are able to help lend a hand.
